Artist and graphic designer who returned to oil painting in 2020. My father and I paint outdoors together every Monday morning as part of the Lake Norman Plein Air Painters. This outdoor practice has made my studio work more spontaneous and taught me to see with fresh eyes. I specialize in golf course landscapes and portraits, working toward becoming a full-time artist.

Paintings Completed En Plein Air

Plein air is French for "open air" — painting outdoors, on location, in a single sitting. No studio, no second chances. Just the artist, the light, and a scene that won't hold still. Every painting is a race against the shifting sun, a fleeting moment caught and kept.

Painted this scene yesterday in Huntersville, NC at the farm of a friend of the Laken Norman Plein Air Painters group. The dead tree in shadow reaching towards the sunlit barn inspired this composition. The weather was fantastic and the leaves are changing adding to the color in our paintings. 9”x16” oil on wood panel Available for purchase. Contact for details. #ncpleinair #barn #farmlifebestlife
Captured this sunset on the shore of Lake Norman. October skies did not disappoint! #lakeshore #lknliving #mooresville 12x16 oil on wood panel For sale. Contact for details.
Painted with LKN Plein Air group at this old barn off 150 in @mooresville It was built in 1928 and served as a dairy farm at one point. While I love painting a barn landscape, I found this scene inside that struck me. The morning light was beautiful and I liked how the barn door created a scene within a scene. #mooresvillearts #pleinairpainter #ncpleinair #barn #farmlifebestlife
Painted this pumpkin patch in @townofdavidson with @rlclewellartist The morning light hitting these pumpkins was really fantastic. #ncpleinairpainter #halloween🎃👻 #pumpkins
Painted this scene at Murray’s Mill in Catawba, North Carolina. The sun was coming up over that distant hill, lighting up the field, and the grass and back lighting the trees in the bushes. I like how all the detail is in the shadows. #ncpleinair #countryside #landscape
Finally had a chance to photograph and post this painting from last week during our second trip back to Miller Air Park in Mooresville. Some of plane owners rolled them out into the field for us to paint.
Painting number two from #paintitorangenc in @hillsboroughnc This was painted @bluestemcemetery. Title: Resting Under Carolina Clouds. #pleinairpainting #ncpleinairpainter
First painting done at #paintitorangenc in @hillsboroughnc I went bigger on this one. My largest plein air piece at 20x16. Oil on canvas. Come see all of the art being made for this event at @artsorangenc this Friday at 6pm. Food trucks and art = can’t miss!
Painted this yesterday at Miller Air Park in @mooresville This barn was converted to a hangar for airplanes. It sat just on the other side of the grass runway. #mooresvillearts #pleinairpainter #airplanes
Dad and I painted at Lake Norman State Park yesterday morning. I know it’s a “rule” not to split the composition but I was interested in the symmetry created by the calm, glass-like water. I was gonna do a horizontal painting and actually started that way but it was missing the height of the trees behind the buildings so I wiped it off and flipped it. #lakelife #lkn #mooresvillearts #guildofcharlotteartists
Pulled out the gouache plein air kit while on vacation at @oakisland_town Need more practice. It’s a leap from oils to gouache paint. 🎨
This is the edge of town. The part that remembers when a pharmacy was a place, not an app. Where somebody knew your name before you reached the counter. #outskirts #smalltownusa
